What is Puppy Mush Anyway?
We often get asked what is you are feeding the new puppies? In this post we will walk you through what we do.
Most puppies let us know when they are ready to begin puppy mush by sticking their heads in mommas bowl. This usually happens between week 3 and week 4.
We begin by soaking a small amount of the hard puppy food we use in hot water. We put enough water in it to make the food float. The point is to get it as soft as possible.

After getting the food super soft, we mush it with a fork until it is in tiny pieces. This makes it easier for the puppies to eat with little to no teeth.

When puppies are just starting out with their feeding, we also mix up some puppy formula to put in the mush. The puppies don’t really eat anything when they first start out, and adding the formula gives them a little more nutrients than just the food soaked water alone.

Then everything is mixed together. This is mostly liquid at this point. Puppies at this age are just learning how to lick and don’t eat very much. We start thickening the puppy mush around 5 weeks and gradually make it thicker and less soft. Puppies are usually eating solid hard food around 7 weeks of age.

Enjoy some pictures of our litters eating this delicious mush! I will add that our mommas very much enjoy cleaning up the left overs!
