Welcome to December! This is one of our favorite months of the year. As a family we enjoy all things Christmas and love to deck the halls.
This can be an exciting time for your animals also. There are a few things to consider when bringing a new puppy home for the holidays.
1. Be sure your puppy has a safe, quiet place to rest away from all the fun. Puppies are like small children and can easily get overstimulated. This can result in a variety of behaviors including barking, nipping, accidents and in extreme cases can lead to low blood sugar issues.
2. Be sure your home has been puppy proofed. This includes securing ornaments on your tree above puppy reach. You will also want to be sure any wires or cords are also out of reach of your puppy. They love to chew on things!
3. Your puppy will need to learn that they are safe with you, so try to limit visitors and/ or places you are visiting with the puppy. ( This will also help protect them from viruses that they are not yet fully vaccinated against. )
4. If you have children in your home who are getting new toys, yoir puppy will not recognized the difference between their toy and your child’s. Patience and repetition will be the key in helping them learn what is theirs and what is not!
5. Enjoy this exciting and magical time with your new puppy!
